Castle of Scipione built by the Marquis Pallavicino in the 11th century and still inhabited by the family, stands on the hills which dominate the Stirane Natural Park, a few minutes from Salsomaggiore, in a charming Medieval hamlet. It began as a military structure to defend the Pallavicino State, a feud just outside the Holy Roman Empire. Over the years the castle was attacked various times and was partly rebuilt in 1447 with the most modern defensive techniques of the time. Other major interventions were undertaken in the 17th century with the elegant portico and large entry to the Court of Honour. The lacunar ceilings, frescos and original decorations have been preserved inside the castle.
